The Hula Hoop Theory
Imagine standing inside a Hula Hoop.
Everything outside of it...other people's choices, emotions, and behaviors...is not.
When my son Justice was struggling with addiction, I kept trying to pull my Hula Hoop around him...hoping that if I could just hold him close enough, I could keep him safe from it all.
Trying to fix things I couldn't control. I wanted to save him, carry his pain, protect him from every fall.
But over time, I learned a painful truth:
I couldn't save him. I could only stay in my own hoop.
That realization changed everything.
- ✓ It taught me how to love with boundaries
- ✓ It gave me space to breathe
- ✓ And it helped me find peace...even in grief
Now, I carry that lesson with me every day in the form of a simple bracelet...a quiet reminder that I can only control what's inside my own Hula Hoop.
And I offer that reminder to you.
