Justice's Light

My name is Erika Sommers and this is the story behind our mission.

On July 25, 2019, I lost my son, Justice, to an overdose. He was 21 years old...brilliant, sensitive, funny, and full of promise. Justice battled addiction for years, and while his story is heartbreaking, it is also one of courage, love, and transformation.

Like many who struggle, he fought hard. He got sober. He relapsed. He tried again. And through it all, he was still my boy...my first true love.

The Turning Point: A Mother's Healing

Addiction is a family disease. It doesn't just affect the person using...it shatters everyone who loves them. In my desperation to save Justice, I became entangled in his struggle. I forgot where he ended and I began.

Through therapy, I diagnosed myself as a "Hula Hoop Mom." I realized I had been living in his space, trying to control what was never mine to carry. I learned that the only thing I could control was what lived inside my own hula hoop.

To remind myself of that truth, I bought a simple necklace...a small symbol that kept me grounded. That necklace became more than jewelry. It became my anchor in the storm.

How the Mission Was Born

That necklace became the first step in my own healing. I wore it through every dark day, every wave of grief, every moment when the pain felt unbearable.

After Justice passed, I knew I wasn't the only one walking this path. There are so many families...mothers, fathers, siblings, friends...grieving someone lost to addiction, often in silence.

That's why I started this nonprofit.

To break that silence. To offer comfort. To help others find healing, even in the depths of heartbreak.

Through symbolic jewelry, shared stories, and simple moments of connection, we offer something tangible...something you can hold onto when everything else feels out of reach.

This Is for You

If you have lost someone to overdose, you are not alone.

If you are grieving, questioning, or simply surviving...this space is for you.

We send healing bracelets, offer resources, and hold space for your story.

Because you are seen. You are valid. You are loved.

The last text messages I shared with Justice the night before he overdosed.

"He was the strongest person I knew. Even in his struggle, he never stopped trying."
